Last night was my first night of advanced riding school at Zulusky Riding School.
It was at the Dakota Technical College where I've been racing bicycles on Tuesday nights for years, so I knew the course well....but it's a lot different at 70mph than 20 on a bicycle.
Before we got on the track they taught us the safety stuff and then we we out with our instructors. There were 3 riders per instructor. The first time we went out on the track we just followed the instructor and got used to the course. The second time we went out we were told to stay in one gear and not use our brakes. The 3rd time we went out we were working on counter-steering and the 4th time we went out we were on our own and were giving it hell. By the end of the night I was getting the hang of it pretty well, but one of the guys in my group took a corner too hot and went down..that woke us up pretty fast. Luckily he didn't get hurt but he was a little banged up and shaken up.
The cool part was watching the advanced guys rip around the course dragging knees.
I'm going to continue to go all summer and hopefully keep moving up levels. I have not decided if I'm going to actually race or not.
